2007 Season Cancelled
1/25/07 - Due to insufficient turnout this spring, the 2007 season for Red Mountain Girls Lacrosse has been cancelled. All girls interested in playing this spring should contact coach Kay as opportunities to participate in the 2007 season exist at Dobson lacrosse. Coach Kay and Coach Evans will be coaching at Dobson in the interim and all former Red Mountain players are welcome to play with Dobson. Red Mountain will be fielding a team in spring 2008, all players not participating in this season should be keeping in shape and hitting the wall to prepare for the '08 season.
2007 Season Starting Soon
12/23/06 - The 2007 season for Red Mountain Girls Lacrosse starts soon! Practice will begin on the first day back from break; January 3rd, 4pm at the Band fields behind the school (next to the tennis courts and baseball field). Dust off those sticks and get ready to play! Players should come fully prepared to practice. You'll need full equipment right from the start, this includes stick, goggles, mouthguard, and running shoes/cleats. If you don't have a stick before practice starts, it's not that big of a deal but you will need to buy one ASAP. You WILL need to be a US Lacrosse member before you can practice. Bring either your membership card (if you have one) or your membership number and expiration date. NO ONE WILL BE ALLOWED TO PRACTICE WITHOUT A US LACROSSE MEMBERSHIP! To sign up for a membership visit the US Lacrosse website to sign up online or download the required forms. If you have any questions or concerns, please get in touch with Coach Kay, contact information can be found here.
Happy holidays to all, have a great break, and get ready to kick some butt!

Girls Lose in Semi-Finals
4/30/06 - The Red Mountain Girls faced a tough Chaparral Firebirds squad in the AGLA semi-finals game. The opening minutes of the game saw both teams find the rope and the score stayed low with each team garnering a handful. Both teams split the first four goals of the game with pressure on either side of the field. Once the initial shock of the ferocious Lions attack wore off, the Firebirds started to pull away. The first half saw Chaparral ratchet up a 2-8 lead. With this being the Lions first chance at a state title, giving up was not an option. The second half saw a renewed Lions team take the field. The Lions never gave up and actually outscored the Firebirds to the tune of 5-4 in the latter half of the game. An outstanding performance by the entire team, especially the offense, having to make up for the absence of team leading and 4th in the league scorer Courtney Johnson. Great performances by freshman goalie Katie Marco (15 saves) and sophomore attack Erin Norris (4g, 4gb) kept the Lions within reach the entire game. Congratulations to all on a great last game.
Girls Advance to Semi Finals With Gritty Win
4/28/06 - In a tough, hard fought battle, the Lions advanced to the State Championship Semi Final game for the first time ever. The Lions faced a very strong Xavier Gators led by midfielder Emily Sullivan, sister of former Red Mountain Boys player Bobby Sullivan. The game started off slow with each team netting a couple of goals but before time was out in the first half the Lions had to claw their way out of a 2-6 deficit. With a couple of quick goals, the Lions managed to pull within 2 and make the score at the half 4-6. The second half saw a different Red Mountain team. Spurred on by an injury to leading scorer Courtney Johnson and a strong charge from senior Captains Marci Rodriguez (3g, 5gb) and Chelsey Lopez (3g, 3gb), the Lions charged forth quickly taking the lead 11-8 with 3 minutes left to play. Xavier, not content with a loss, rallied quick and fired in 2 goals to bring the score within 1 goal. Unfortunately that was the closest the Gators would get as Red Mountain maintained possession as time ran out. Freshman goalie Katie Marco made 14 saves in the win, 8 of which game in the second half and senior Tricia Dawson was dominant all over the field garnering 1 goal, 7 ground balls and 3 caused turn overs.
The Lions are back in action Saturday (4/29) 10am at Mountain View Park as they face #1 Chaparral in the AGLA Semi Finals
Girls Win in First Round of Playoffs
4/25/06 - The Red Mountain Girls team played their first round of playoff opponents on Monday (4/24). The 5th ranked Lions hosted the 13th Ranked Mountain Pointe Pride in the first round of the AGLA playoffs and the Lions came out to play! After taking a slow start to size up their opponents, the Lions roared to 9-2 half time score. During the opening lull in play, Freshman goaltender Katie Marco held the Pride at bay only allowing 2 goals, after that it was all Lions. The second half saw increased pressure on offense by the Lions while the Pride held an extra man back on defense to help shut down the Lions offense. Unfortunately, this ploy did not accomplish what it set out to do and only made the job of the Lions defense easier. Final score saw the Lions up 12-4. Junior Attack Courtney Johnson had 6 goals in the win while Sophomore Attack Erin Norris had 1 goal and 3 assists. Senior Middies Marci Rodriguez and Kristyn Foster both had a goal and an assist in the win.
The Girls are back in action on Thursday (4/27) for round 2 of the AGLA playoffs. Location, time and opponents have not yet been set. Once the league organizes the second round, updates can be found here with information regarding Red Mountain's next match up.
