Girls Fall to Horizon in Playoffs; Season Complete For All Red Mountain Teams
The second round of the playoffs was not as kind to the Lady Lions as the first round was. The girls faced a tough, unbeaten, Horizon Huskies team in Monday's (4/25) matchup. The Lions were looking for some revenge after an early season loss to the Huskies, but none would be had. The Lions came out strong for the first minute or two of play controlling the highly contested first draw and registering 3-4 shots right off the bat. Unfortunately a goal could not be found and the Huskies regained their composure and started playing their game. Horizon recovered by scoring a handful of goals in the first half putting the lions on their heels. The lone Lion goal of the first half came off a rocket from senior Jane Evans (2g, 5gb, 3ct). Score at the half was 1-4 Huskies but the Lady Lions were not about to give up. The girls fought back and brought the game close with two goals from sophomore Courtney Johnson (2g, 3gb) and another from Jane Evans. Horizon was not content to allow the game to be tied and always kept the lead by a goal or two the entire game. Final score Lions 4 - Huskies 9.

Girls Victorious in First Round of Playoffs
The Lady Lions kicked off the 2005 post season with an 8-1 win over a young Desert Vista Thunder team on Saturday (4/23). The Thunder started the game off with some tenacious play and with lots of intensity which stunned the Lady Lions a bit. Once they adjusted and their nerves settled down, the Lions were able to settle into their groove and get some points up. Score at the half saw the Lions up 3-1. Kicking off the second half the Lions came out strong and did not let up. Red Mountain outscored their opponent 5-0 in the second half. Stand out play from seniors Brooke Holman (5 shots, 2g, 2gb) and Jane Evans (6 shots, 4g, 4gb) kept the offense rolling while senior Kristen Countryman (5gb) and freshman Lauren Mateer (6gb, 2ct) helped stave off the efforts of the Thunder offense. **UPDATE** The girls are in action again 7pm Monday (4/25) against Horizon at Paradise Valley High school. **UPDATE**
Directions to Paradise Valley High School: Take the 202 West to the 101 North. Take the Tatum Road exit South to Bell Road. West on Bell to 40th Street. Team Updates...Abridged
The girls team won two games in a row, beating Paradise Valley 21-8 and Pinnacle 11-2. They followed the wins by going to the other end of the spectrum and dropped the following two games, first losing to Chaparral 1-9 and then dropping a heart breaker to defending state champs Xavier 6-7. The girls finished off the regular season with a win against Gilbert 4-3. Final record for the regular season was 5-6. The girls look to improve their record during post season play either Friday (4/22) or Saturday (4/23) in the first round of the playoffs. The girls will also be playing at halftime during the Arizona Sting's first ever playoff game on Friday (4/22) at 7:30pm.
The boys high school team finished off their season with a positive ending by winning their last two games of the season against Notre Dame 7-5 and Mesa 12-10. Despite the strong finish, the boys did not make it into the playoffs. Finishing strong with a 2-10 record, the boys look forward to a little revenge come next spring.
Meanwhile, the boys junior high team also finished strong with a win, bringing their season to a 2-7 end. History was made this season with the junior high team when they finally won their first game in club history. Not only that, they won 2 games when all was said and done. The junior high team looks to build upon this success and come out strong in the 2006 season.
Congratulations to all teams on a great 2005 season. Please check back as pictures will be updated as well as for updates on the girls team during the AGLA playoffs. Statistics for the girls regular season have been completed and can be found under the Girls Statistics section.
Lions Too Much To Handle For Thunder
On a beautiful Wednesday (3/23) afternoon, the Red Mountain Lions faced off against the Desert Vista Thunder in what would be a very good and intense game. The Lady Lions came out strong right from the start and kicked off the scoring with an early goal from Jane Evans. Aggressive play on defense and offense managed to hold the Thunder to no goals in the first half while the Lions tallied three goals to make the halftime score 3-0. Once the second half began, frustration appeared to hit the Thunder which seemed to only be eased by getting some goals. Feeding off their frustration and aggressive play, the Thunder managed to notch two great goals on consecutive shots which seemed to lift their spirits and bring some life to the team. Unfortunately for the Thunder, those two goals were not enough to get some momentum going and the Lions outscored their opponent 3-2 in the second half. Final score at the sound of the horn Lions 6 - Thunder 2. Great game all around by both teams.
The girls are in action again Saturday (3/26) when they face Dobson at Fremont JHS at 10am. The Junior High Boys are also in action on Saturday (3/26) against Mountain Side Middle School at Apache Park at 12:30pm. Tonight (3/24), the High School Boys are facing off against Mountain Pointe at Pecos Park at 6:00pm.
Directions to Desert Vista
To clear up the confusion for the girls game today. It is an away game at Desert Vista's home fields which are Will Nolan Fields in Ahwatukee. It is NOT against Desert Mountain in North Scottsdale. To get to Will Nolan fields in Ahwatukee follow these directions: Take the 60 west or 202 west to the I-10 East. Take the I-10 East to Chandler Blvd. Get off at Chandler Blvd and go West(right). Go South(left) on 32nd and then West(right) onto Frye. The fields are just past Desert Vista High School. They are on the right hand side of the street and are across from a large church. Park on the street or in the church parking lot.
Lions Swept by PCDS
Both boys teams were in action this past Saturday (3/5) to face tough Phoenix Country Day School squads. The junior high kicked off the festivities yearning for revenge. After last year's meeting between the JHS Lions and the JHS Eagles, the Lions finished the day with a 15-3 loss. This season blood was needed in retribution. The Lions came out strong Saturday going back and forth with PCDS all afternoon long. Strong play in goal by Tito Pickering and a hat trick performance by Jacob Hatch kept the Lions in it all game and left the team tied 5-5 with less than a minute to play. Unfortunately, someone has to lose in every game and this time around it was us off of a fast break with 40 seconds left in regulation. The Lions tried to get a quick goal in the waning seconds of the game, but couldn't find the back of the net. Strong teamplay made this a tough game full of heart and hustle on both sides of the field. Final score Lions 5 - Eagles 6
Later on in the day, the high school boys got ready and faced a hardened Eagles team. Penalties became a problem when a few 3minute non-releasable illegal equipment penatlties were given to each team. Unfortunately, the Lions EMO team could not convert and get some points which would prove costly in the end. Much to the dismay of the PCDS coaching staff, the game was kept within reach all afternoon long until the very end because of outstanding play between the pipes by Talmage Johnson. Valuable experience was gained by many new players during the contest. When all was said and done, the final was Lions 2 - Eagles 14.
Tuesday (3/8) evening the Lady Lions squared off against the Lady Eagles looking to redeem some club pride and pull out a win to avoid the sweep. Despite the seasons first game that involved intense teamwork and hustle, the Lady Lions fell at home 3-7. The Lions dominated the game in every category and racked up some crazy time of posession numbers and an insane 52 ground balls. The only category they did not control was goals. The Lady Lions couldn't find the back of the net and it cost them the game. A goal called back due to a crease violation as well as a few missed opportunies up close cost the Lions the season series. A tough loss all around for the lions.
The high school boys are in action tonight (3/10) 6pm at home against the defending state champion Chaparral Firebirds. The junior high team faces off against the Scottsdale Mustangs Saturday (3/12) 12:30pm at Mountain View Park. The girls team has a hiatus until Wednesday 3/23 4:30pm against Desert Vista at Will Nolan Fields. Catch some of the action and support Lions Lacrosse!
Lady Lions Fall to Huskies
The Lady Lions lost a tough match against Horizon on Tuesday (3/1). Horizon kicked off the game with a burst getting a goal right off the initial draw. They proceeded to rack up a few more tallies before the Lions were able to answer back with a goal by Courtney Johnson off of a feed from Brooke Holman. Unfortunately for the Lions, this would be the extent of the scoring for the whole evening. On the other hand, Horizon faced no such problems and continuted to fire away at the net. Score at the half was 1-4 and when the game concluded the final was 1-7. This loss pushes the Lady Lions to 1-1 for the season. The girls are in action again on Saturday (3/5) along with both boys teams. NOTE: The boys games have changed start times, please recheck the schedule for the changes.
The website has been updated to include new pictures, new videos, girls and boys statistics and girls statistics for individual games. Individual player statistics can be found at each team's respective roster and game statistics for the ladies can be found under Girls Stats
Week Results in 4 of 5 Games Dropped
Both boys teams were in action late in the week with the high school team playing Saguaro and Horizon. The junior high team played St. Theresa and Mohave in back to back games one night after the other. Unfortunately, both teams dropped their games. The high school played a tough Saguaro team 1-18 and dropped a heart breaker against Horizon 10-14. The Lions couldn't handle Saguaro's give and go offense and a last period come back fell short against Horizon. The junior high team faced a strong St. Theresa's team and let that one slip 5-16, meanwhile they were neck and neck with Mohave until Mohave put in a few goals in a row and took off from there; final score was 6-15. The only bright spot on the week was the win by the Lady Lions against Corona Del Sol.
The girls high school team is the only one in action during the week Tuesday (3/1), facing a gritty Horizon Huskies team that is coming off a win against Chaparral. They're looking to avenge the loss the boys faced at the hands of Horizon's boys team and hope to keep their winning ways going. All three teams are in action this weekend on Saturday (3/5) with the girls hosting Desert Mountain at home starting at 10am, and both boys teams traveling to PCDS for a double header that kicks off at 11am.
High School Teams Open Their Seasons With Mixed Results
The Red Mountain Lions High School Boys team opened their season last week with a game against a determined Pinaccle Pioneers team. After suffering a 20-1 loss to Chaparral, Pinaccle had something to prove, and unfortunately the Lions faced the brunt of their fury. Red Mountain's defense was led by Talmage Johnson (game MVP) and his strong play in the cage, with the rest of the defense following suit and playing a solid game. Unfortunately, Pinnacle's overwhelming offense was too much for the Lions to handle. Compounding the situation was a number of forced and unforced turnovers in the offensive end for the Lions, there by slowing any kind of attack that might have been mounted. Ultimately, the Lions fell to the Pioneers 1-11. The boys look to bounce back from the loss with a win tonight (2/24) against the Saguaro Sabercats at home starting at 6:30pm.
The Lady Lions opened their season to a hard faught win against a brand new Corona Del Sol Lady Aztec squad. The Lady Lions, plagued by injuries (pinched nerve, fractured foot, bursitis, and bruised ribs), managed to come out firing and immediately put up some goals to start the game off 3-1. Before the first half was done, the lead had jumped to 6-2. Unfortunately, the Lady Lions did not capitalize on this advantage by pressing it home, instead they fell back on their heels and were outscored in the second half to the tune of 7-4. Luckily for the girls they were able to hold off a strong comeback from a frenzied Aztec team and pulled out the win with the final score being 10-9. Maryland transplant Courtney Johnson was vital on draws, dominating them the entire game and strong play by the offense helped secure the win. When the final horn sounded to end play, eight different Lady Lions had pulled the trigger and scored one or more goals. Chantelle Toney was strong on both sides of the ball scoring twice and stopping some intense drives on defense securing her the honor of MVP for the game.
The Junior high team looks to kick off their season with a win tonight (2/24). After having all previously scheduled games end up without any actual games taking place, the boys are looking forward to sinking their teeth into an experienced St. Theresa team tonight. Game time is 5pm at our home field on the Red Mountain High School Band Fields. The boys will look to avenge a tough loss from last season and kick off the season with a bang! Look for strong play from first time goalie Tito Pickering, and a young defensive squad anchored by experienced heavy weight Carlos Soltero. The offense will pick up the pieces and convert some points with the help of Devin Davey and company. Tomorrow (2/25) the Junior High Lions look to face a tough Mohave team in the rain at 4:30pm at home.

Preparations for Spring '05
Hey everyone, the planning for the spring season is already underway. Some big changes are taking place in both the men's and women's league. The biggest change for the guys team is a new division format that will allow us to play more tradition rival teams and teams that the school plays in other sports. For the girls, atleast 5 brand new teams to play against are coming into the league. What do these things mean for Red Mountain team members? It means more teams, better competition, and more intense rivalries. With the season coming soon and fall leagues commencing, our planning has started. Fund raisers are in the making and as always, we're on the lookout for potential new players. So, if you know any people who want to play, or you have an idea for a fundraiser, please get in touch with Coach Kay or Coach Middleton.
Girls Face a Tough Horizon Squad Saturday
3/6/04 Saturday. The RMHS Girls took on a tough Huskies team and ultimately lost 9-0, but not before putting up a valiant fight. The Horizon Huskies took off to an early lead, cranking out a handful of goals early on to start the game. The Lady Lions didn't let this affect them though. After a quick timeout by Coach Kay, the girls got their bearings back and put up a strong defense. Strong play from the defense and goalie, Sarah Pezzaro, managed to keep the Huskies at bay with just 7 goals in the first half. The Lions came out strong in the second half, starting off with a few good scoring chances with the best one coming when Danielle Masles rang one off the post. More strong play from the defense kept the Huskies to just 2 goals throughout the second half. Solid goaltending from Sarah Pezzaro, who stopped 25 of 34 shots, kept the Lions within reach of the Huskies all game long.
